My interest in Car Camping occurred not long ago when my church’s annual Men’s Camping event was announced. Now they’ve had this for years and this is the third year the vent has come up but I’ve yet to attend.
Don’t get me wrong but I’ve wanted to go for the past two years but my mental obstacles have held me back. While I jokingly told others it was because I snored or that I have chronic back pain (which both are true) it was more to do with the mechanics of not only dealing with back pain but the physical aspects of setting up a tent and all the other riggers involved.
As we gain knowledge and maturity one of the things I’ve noticed I’ve done is set up a safe routine in life that fits within the boundaries I’ve set for myself. I have a home, a car, a job, and grandkids I tried to see as often as I can. But what I haven’t built into my routine is adventure for myself. And up until now I’ve been okay with that… Until lately.
Back to my church’s camping trip. This year I decided I was going (and sleeping overnight) and nothing would stand in my way. Okay, that sounded like a positive attitude, so half the battle was won. Right? Maybe…
I drive a Kia Sorrento SUV, and I wondered if it would be possible to sleep in the back in the cargo area and samp out of my car. After a well-honed Google searches, I discovered there’s an entire cottage industry dedicated to Car Camping. We Cool Beans!
AT this point I decided to research the topic and as usual for me I practically became obsessed with learning everything I could about Car Camping in Texas. I’ll keep my challenge local since Texas is large enough to start.
So, welcome to The Car Camping Senior (aka The Texas Car Camping Senior) a place dedicated to experiencing this new stage in my life and maybe sharing some of the information gained with others. Thank you for reading today and I invite you back for more posts coming soon.
